In honor of my wedding anniversary, I’m sharing 10 scriptures to pray over your marriage. May they guide it to a more perfect union.
Marriage is both wonderful and difficult. For every sublime moment, there are a dozen small incidents that make us less crazy about the other person and more just, well, crazy.
But God knew this when he created the institution of marriage, and He did not leave us without guidance. In honor of my 16th wedding anniversary, I’m sharing 10 scripture verses that relate to common struggles many of our marriages face. I hope they provide wisdom, solace, and direction in your own relationships.
10 Scriptures to Guide Your Marriage
For Unity in Marriage
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9)
To Remember the Power of Love
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)
For Trust
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.” (Psalm 143:8)
For Avoiding Unnecessary Conflict
“Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” (Proverbs10:12)
For Self-control
“Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity.” (Titus 2:6-7)
For Keeping Christ in Your Marriage
“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12)
For Turning from Anger
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20)
For Encouragement
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
To be a Spouse Worthy of Praise
“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown…” (Proverbs 12:4a)
To Remember the Blessing of A Good Spouse
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22)
I hope these scripture verses encourage and inspire you to be the best spouse you can be, and to love your partner in a way worthy of the marriage God has ordained for you. It’s difficult and full of struggles, but it’s worth the effort when we truly love that other person.
