The Year We Learned to Fly by Jacqueline Woodson
All about the strength and resilience of brilliant and beautiful minds, this book is wonderful. It follows two children who take their grandmother’s advice and let their minds transport them.
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
These classic fantasy stories set in the land of Narnia make a great gift for any teen or tween. Full of epic battles, bravery, and symbolism, they can be enjoyed at face value or delved into for the author’s own thoughts on Christianity. Includes all seven books in one volume.
Christmas Stories by Laura Ingalls Wilder
A reillustrated collection of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s childhood stories of Christmas. From family to traditions to gifts, this book will put your child in the holiday spirit. Great for ages 6-10.
Skandar and the Unicorn Thief by A.F. Steadman
When 13-year-old Skandar’s hopes of becoming a unicorn rider are dashed, he is surprised when a mysterious figure comes to ask for his help saving the Island of wild unicorns. Full of action and developing friendships, this series is great for 8-12 year olds.
The Jolly Christmas Postman by Janet & Allan Ahlberg (5-8)
We love this delightful Christmas book that follows the jolly postman as he delivers letters to characters like the Big Bad Wolf. Each page has a real letter that can be read for lots of laughs and fun.
The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner
These books are favorites among all my kids, no matter the age. Fun mysteries that feature four siblings, these books are a great way to introduce your child to critical reading as they work to solve the mystery alongside the Alden children.
Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien
This is a collection of letters Tolkien wrote over the years to his children, sent by Father Christmas himself. A mix of artful illustrations, meticulous calligraphy, and detailed world building (you’ve never seen the North Pole like this), this book is fun and silly and perfect for kids or to be read as a family.

Good for younger kids (ages 2-4), this book is an Appalachian story about courage and family. Heartwarming and perfect for the season.
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
This acclaimed book about a boy with a facial difference that makes it hard for kids to accept him is so hopeful and heartwarming. Told from multiple perspectives, we see Auggie’s world as he tries to fit into a new school and make friends.
Holiday Gift Guide for… BOOKS FOR ADULTS
From cozy mysteries to family dramas, from suspense to memoir, this list includes some of the best books I’ve read this year…
Two Nights in Lisbon by Chris Pavone
This thriller about a woman who wakes up to find her new husband has gone missing while on a trip to Lisbon was twisty and surprising in all the best ways. The unreliable narration made the book really work, and I found myself rereading parts that I thought I understood, only to realize I had been duped. Even when I started to figure things out, I still couldn’t figure how it would end.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
Elizabeth Zott is a chemist in the 1960s in California who wants nothing more than to work in her lab. But misogyny, love, a baby, rowing, and cooking fame derail her time and again. You can’t help but love this unique character and the tribe she builds through the successes and traumas of her life.
The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman
Four septuagenarians – a retired spy, nurse, psychiatrist, and blue-collar worker – mix with some local cops, murderers, celebrities, and more than a few unsavory characters (some of which are friends) and you have the Thursday Murder Club at work. These mysteries are perfectly entertaining.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
You know all those romance novel tropes? This is a romance novel that takes a good handful of them and turns them on their ears. Meet Nora and Charlie, two high-octane people from the NYC publishing world who can’t stop running into each other, despite not liking each other. If that sounds like a meet-cute, you’re only half right. That’s the beauty of this book.
Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan
For anyone who loves Whelan’s audiobook narrations, this novel is worth a read (or listen). Sewanee Chester doesn’t narrate romance novels anymore, but circumstances put her into a place where she has to. And when she connects with the narrator for the male lead, her life takes a new turn. This is a romance novel, but the author always does an amazing job of digging deeper and helping the characters grow. This is a perfect summer read!
The Patron Saint of Second Chances by Christine Simon
The self-appointed mayor of a small Italian town must come up with 70,000 euros or the water will be shut off, forcing the residents to leave. His heartfelt attempts to get the money, save the town, and not make anyone mad while doing it are hilarious and heartwarming.
The Common Rule by Justin Whitmel Earley
This books challenges the reader to create a rule of life that forms habits that align with their beliefs. Not heavy, but still thought-provoking and inspiring. Perfect for someone gearing up for their new year’s resolutions.
The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi
Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown
Bomb Shelter by Mary Laura Philpott
Decluttering at the Speed of Life by Dana K. White
An accessible, realistic guidebook for decluttering your life. Perfect for anyone who really wants to declutter but can’t seem to make the time or the progress in their busy lives.
Things My Son Needs to Know About the World by Fredrik Backman
Both humorous and poignant, this series of essays written to his son illustrates the important things a man needs to know as he grows. A perfect gift for dads.
Holiday Gift Guide for… STOCKING STUFFERS and SECRET SANTAS
These under $25 gifts make wonderful add-ins to family stockings or can be used for the office Secret Santa exchange…
Water Bottle Ice Cube Tray
This is something everyone needs. These smaller cylinders of ice can fit into sports drinks, plastic water bottles, and reusable bottles for a cold drink when they need it most.
Yoga Sloth Figurines
Cute and quirky, these sloth figurines are doing yoga poses while wearing ugly Christmas sweaters. Tell me that isn’t a great stocking stuffer! They are small enough to work on desks, mantels, and nightstands.
Mug Warmer
For the person who is at their desk longer than their coffee can stay warm. This small hot plate keeps their mug warm as they nurse their beverage of choice at work or home.
Sunprint Paper Kit
This gift is good for all ages and allows them to make photograph-like images using sun and water. It’s fun and interesting, sure to wow your Secret Santa with delight.
Mini Humidifier
This little humidifier is great for work desks, dorm rooms, and children’s bedrooms. It’s also adorable and will come in handy during the dry, cold days of winter.
Poetry for Neanderthals
This hilarious game will make anyone happy. Using only one-syllable words, contestants have to explain complex words and phrases. If they fail, they get bopped on the head with the inflatable caveman club.
Couch Coaster
Perfect for the person who loves sitting on the couch with their drink, but has no place to put it. This clever device attaches to the arm of the couch so they can place it down within arm’s reach.
I hope this Holiday Gift Guide gifts you with some great ideas and makes your 2022 holidays simpler and more fun. To print or download a PDF copy, click here.
