Thinking about making some 2024 goals this new year? Need some inspiration? Here’s what I’m pledging to do over the next 12 months…
I absolutely love new year’s goals! I love the process of considering them, planning them, making sure they’re doable and measurable. There are lots of steps that I take before I take the plunge into a new year of resolutions.
This year, I have decided to focus on 10 topics for my goals. These top 10 are the most important aspects of my life and ones I am dedicated to improving and honing so they serve me and my purposes in life even better.
What is your purpose in life? If you haven’t thought about this, I highly suggest you do so before you set your 2024 goals. Knowing what you stand for and what your life is for can focus your goals in such an energizing way. Consider choosing a word for your year or an idea.
As for me, my purpose is to raise my family and guide them to their own God-given skills and talents to honor and glorify God through my choices, talents, and efforts. With that in mind, my spiritual growth, my financial health, my family life, and my physical well-being are all off-shoots of this purpose. And my 2024 goals reflect that.
So when you make your goals, look at what your true purpose is here. Let that guide your choices for resolutions in this new year. You’ll find making goals so much easier and obvious when there is a worthwhile reason behind each one.
My Ten 2024 Goals

Spiritual
For my spiritual goal, I plan to implement a daily devotional time where I read the Bible, journal, pray, and meditate. I know, meditate and pray may sound similar, but they are different. Prayer is active and requires both talking and listening. Meditation is a way to clear my mind and focus myself. Both have extraordinary benefits. I have already purchased my Mom Heart Moments devotional and my Worry for Nothing prompted journal for this practice.
Family
I want to devote this year to celebrating and encouraging closeness and kindness in my family. As my older children reach their teenage years, I find that they are more inclined to razz each other than hug each other. So I want to focus on bringing kindness to the forefront of their minds and exemplify it in their lives. It’s not easy to measure as a goal, but I’ll know it when I see it. Also, I would like to decrease their screen time as we let them have a bit more than usual for winter break, but now it’s back to business.
Debt
I want to pay off our debt, including student loans, by the end of the year. We are hindered financially by payments and it would open us up to opportunities to help our community, sponsor more children overseas, and save for our children’s futures if we douse this debt. So I have taken on an opportunity to work in my off time and raise the money we need. This is no small time commitment as you know that I also homeschool and freelance write. But I am dedicated to this particular 2024 goal and will work hard for it.
Savings
Just like debt, savings is the other side of the coin. Ridding ourselves of unwise debt is part of the plan. The other part is saving to an IRA, creating an emergency fund, and savings for a rainy day (or lost job). Doing this while paying down debt makes it doubly challenging, but I will do my best to reach this goal “gazelle-fast” as Dave Ramsey says.
Writing
As you may know, I enjoy writing, but have never finished a manuscript. I struggle with this and have decided to set myself a 2024 goal that is not too ambitious in hopes of soft-pedaling my way to completion. This year, I pledge to write just 5,000 words a month, which would bring me to 60,000 in the year – a respectable manuscript length. We’ll see how it turns out.
Reading
My 2024 goal for reading is 300 books, whether they be physical books, e-books, or audiobooks. I never discriminate. Last year, I read a little over 250 books, so this will be a challenge for me with everything else I am doing. But I love reading and really struggle with managing my towering TBR list (and pile) so this is a great goal for someone like me.
Learning
There is no end to learning. I believe that each person should continue to learn every day of their life and I pledge to continue my learning with weekly podcasts, news magazines, and completing one Great Courses lecture series a month. By keeping abreast of current events, delving deep into podcasts about parenting, writing, and faith, and learning about history, science, and other topics through lectures, I will continue learning in the new year.
Home
I struggle to maintain order in my home. It is often messy thanks to the little and not-so-little people in my house who make quite a mess. But my 2024 goal is to maintain a clean house through rhythms and routines that speak to my personality and a planner that breaks things down for me. I also plan to declutter 5 things a week to help keep my house minimalistic and free of unnecessary clutter.
Homeschooling
With a busy schedule, homeschooling can be easy to move to the next day… and the next. But that serves no one except the immediate moment and I pledge for my 2024 goal to be consistent and daily with my schooling. I have set a plan for the year and spent the majority of the winter break writing out my schedule, notes, listing of videos, and requesting books from the library. All this planning makes my lesson plans plug-and-play when days get busy and I can’t think. I will do the same during our July summer break.
Physical
Feeling and being our best helps when we are in good condition. I had eye surgery at the end of 2023 so I am not allowed to run or workout until March. When I get the go-ahead from my doctor, I will start up my daily runs and also incorporate yoga and HIIT/strength workouts. For now, I will be walking daily to get exercise and clear my mind for the day.
So these are my 2024 goals. What do you think? Any you agree/disagree with? What are your 2024 goals? I’d love to hear in the comments what you’re focusing on in this new year! Share with me below or tag me on social media!

This was the first year in a long time that I actually made some goals. Many are like yours: write more, save more, get rid of debt, press deeper into the things of the Lord. Praying these things are not only resolutions but habits!

I pray the same! Good luck with your goals this year!
