“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)
When I first read this verse about being still, a certain expression immediately came to mind: “Get out of your own way.”
Our culture values and applauds go-getters, hustlers, and anyone who is busy. I get it. I can’t help but envy their motivation, drive, and ambition myself. When I see people accomplishing great things through blood, sweat, and tears, it’s admirable.
But is it only blood, sweat, and tears? Are the amazing things that man accomplishes only the result of his own striving… or is there something more?
Be still and stay out of your own way
When we push and push for something, we can sometimes get discouraged when nothing happens, or worse, our efforts send us back a step. Like Sisyphus rolling a boulder up a hill, only to see it roll back down, our striving can seem like an exercise in frustration.
That’s because we are putting that effort entirely on our own shoulders. Our normal, human shoulders. How much better would our plans be, how much more successful if we placed them on shoulders that are stronger and more powerful.
Instead of just using blood, sweat, and tears to accomplish our life’s goals, why not include God in our plans?
Be still for the Lord because the fight is His
Be still because God will fight for you. Wait patiently for Him instead of trying to do it all on your own. The biggest fights in our lives aren’t fought by us, they’re fought by God—in us and through us.
So, instead of striving to get things done, take a breath and remember who ultimately brings about our successes in life. Be still and thank God for His presence by your side and praise Him for the power He unleashes on your behalf.
Be still and watch what God has planned for you.

Very reassuring truth, Rebecca! The battle is the Lord’s and we should rest in His care and ability to fight for and through us. Our job is simply to be still. Pinning, my friend! Love the look of your blog too!
