This is the fourth week of Advent. Join me as we celebrate the coming of Jesus with humble thankfulness.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:12-13)
This is the fourth week of Advent. For the past three weeks, we have been preparing our hearts and minds for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. And throughout this Advent season, anticipation, light, and praise have drawn our hearts closer to God.
Each Christmas, we give gifts to our family, friends, and co-workers, and make donations to help the needy. We are generous with our money, time, and kindnesses.
We do these things because we are emulating, to the best of our ability, the ultimate kindness. The ultimate gift.
Jesus was born to save us from our sins, to wash away the darkness. But we weren’t just cleansed with His blood. We were given a chance to become royalty.
And we celebrate Jesus’ birth and death because by believing in Him, believing that He was the living, breathing Son of God who died for our sins, we became children of God.
For our faith, we became the children of the King, heirs to the throne, and welcome in his Heavenly home.
So, no matter who you are in this world, no matter what status society has given you in this place, you are a beloved child of God and have a place awaiting you with Him. For that, we can be humbly thankful.
This is a gift we did not earn or buy on our own, but was bought for us.
Let’s focus our hearts this week on this amazing truth. God loves us. He has gone to great lengths to save us and is always there for us.
In this fourth week of Advent, we light a candle on our wreaths for love, for His love abounds for His children. From the birth of the baby Jesus in the manger to the final breath on the cross, God’s love is unquestionable and unfailing.
Merry Christmas!
