“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
Do you remember the story of the widow and her two mites? I was always so impressed by this woman. How faithful must she have been to put in all of the money that she had as an offering! It makes me ashamed of all the times that I grudgingly filled my offering envelope, thinking of what I could have done with that money instead. The bills that could have been paid or groceries that could have been bought.
But how much or how little I offered wasn’t the problem. My lack of faith in his provision was.
Paul talks about how all of our needs will be met by God. But having faith in that promise can be challenging. Believing that God has a plan for us and that he loves us may be easier than having faith that there will be enough money for the power bill this month or to buy enough food to last the week. Anxiety over keeping our jobs, making the mortgage, and finding the right doctor to treat a loved one is a result of not believing that God will take care of us in all things.
But he will. Maybe not the way we thought, or even prayed, he will, but He is always faithful. How many times have you hoped for one thing, only to have it slip away? But instead, God gives you something even better. Or something happens, such as an emergency car repair, that you don’t have the money for, when, unexpectedly, a refund check appears in the mail.
All of our needs will be met by God. So put aside the anxiety and fear that the burden lies on your shoulders alone and let your faith in Christ guide and provide for you.
Have a beautiful Monday!
