Wondering where to pour out your troubles when you’ve been disappointed again and again? Try the One who always listens…
“I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble.” (Psalm 142:2)
Even with a new year, there are still old troubles. We may all be looking to 2024 for renewal, but at the same time, we are dragged down by the worries, disappointments, and regrets of 2023 and beyond.
I know how it feels. My anxiety makes it hard for me to focus on the present, and I often find myself ruminating on past mistakes, misunderstandings, and missed opportunities.
Maybe this year will be one of renewed hope. But in order for that to be the case, we need to let go of past hurts and troubles to allow 2024 to actually be a new year for us.
How do you set aside those old hurts? How do you let go of troubles that don’t seem to fade away with the fireworks on January 1? By giving them up. Not just to anyone who will listen, but to the One who always listens.
Pouring out your troubles to God
God has always been there for us, awaiting our prayers and ready to listen. When the struggles of life become too great, He is there to carry our load.
Jesus once said, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). He offered his burden in place of yours so that you could find rest and peace. God is always there to bring you peace when you ask.
Have the last few months, or years, been a disappointment? Have you experienced troubles that have left you hurt and tired? It’s time to bring your troubles to the One who always listens and can offer more than a kind ear. He offers rest for the weary. He offers safe harbor for the deluged.
Find a safe haven in the Lord this season. Life will always bring trouble, but take heart that “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). We are not alone and we have an advocate who is there for us. Allow yourself to take a moment’s respite from it all by laying your troubles at the feet of God. He will carry your load while you get the rest you need.
He is always there for us. This year and all the ones to come.
Have a blessed Monday!
