God listens to our prayers and is always there for us – we need to have faith in prayer and believe that God will help us when we need it…
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)
I have asked for many things in my prayers over the years. Some have to do with my children, their safety and health. Others have to do with myself or my marriage. And some were, well, minor.
Please God, let me not be late again. Please God, help me finish my to-do list. Lord, please make the kids like this new dinner I’m trying.
I know it seems silly to pray for such small things, but I believe that you can pray about anything. If God is willing to listen, then I have to be willing to pray from my heart, no matter where my heart may lie at that time.
Are all these prayers answered? Honestly, not always. My children have gotten sick, my husband and I have fought, and more than a few dinners were grudgingly eaten.
Does that mean that God isn’t listening? Does that mean that our prayers are not important or worth sending up to Him?
Having Faith in Prayer
The answer to those questions is: Absolutely not.
God is always listening to our prayers. They are always worth it and God wants us to openly communicate with Him. We are so lucky to have a God who is directly linked to us, one we can speak to without a priest or sacrifice needed.
So what does this verse in Mark refer to? If we ask in prayer, it will be ours? But what about all those unanswered prayers?
Prayer is not a wish list that we send to God for Him to rubber stamp. God does not take orders from us. Prayers are answered when we ask in wisdom and it’s in God’s will.
We may not always know what God’s will is, but we can pray wisely. We can seek God’s counsel before we seek our own will. When we pray with wisdom that comes from following God’s guidance, our prayers will be answered.
Don’t stop praying for the little things. But in between praying for a parking space to open up and for the washing machine to work, remember to consult God and what He wants in your life.
It might not be our will, but our prayers are always answered according to His will.
Have a blessed Monday!
