We are all given gifts in life, but are we investing them faithfully or relying on our own wisdom? This month we’ll be exploring Faithfulness, and how God rewards those who trust in Him.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 25:21)
Have you ever been scrolling through headlines and seen that some billionaire has donated a million dollars to a good cause? You think, “Wow, that will really help!”
Then later, as you fill your own offering envelope, think, “What difference does this little bit make?”
This pandemic has caused immeasurable financial stress for so many people, and this trickles down to every aspect of the family budget. Being faithful in giving can be more difficult when every dollar is harder to come by.
I don’t know if I’m the only one who struggles with this. Who stares at the amount in that envelope and thinks about bills and groceries and kids’ shoe prices. Who has to remind herself that God is faithful and generous. But I doubt I’m alone.
He can do more with that money than I can. My job isn’t to worry about the future, but to be a faithful servant.
The rewards of faithfulness
In this parable in Matthew, we see three servants given gifts from their master. The first two took their gold and doubled it. The third fearfully buried it so he could return it to his master.
The ones who invested their gifts were rewarded for using them well. The one who hoarded the gold in fear was punished and lost what he had held onto.
What we’re given in this life, whether it’s the salary of a CEO or that of a store clerk, is a gift from God that’s meant to be invested faithfully. God rewards those who place their faith in Him, both in this world and beyond.
So, instead of grudgingly giving with a worried heart, we should be giving with faithful confidence. Because right now, God is offering us a bag of gold to handle wisely. Eventually, it will be the keys to heaven.
Being faithful even in times of economic uncertainty is exactly when God will show His own faithfulness to us, and reward those who trust in Him. Whether it’s in tithing or other areas of our lives, God will take care of our needs if we just let him.
Have a blessed Monday!
