Just because something happens every day, doesn’t mean it lacks beauty. Even in the mundane, we can find the praiseworthy…
“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3)
My daughter is fascinated by eclipses. Lunar or solar, she loves reading about them and looking at pictures. She was in awe of the recent Blood Moon that occurred a few weeks ago. So, of course, she begged to stay up to see it.
Since that was around 1:30am our time, I had to decline.
We’re indoctrinated to look for the special. The unique. The one-of-a-kind. Whether it’s art or looks, nature or experiences, the less common, the more we revel in it.
And that’s not to say those things aren’t amazing. I saw the pictures of the moon the next morning (after a full night’s rest, thank you), and they were amazing.
But if we’re only assigning worth and praise based on rarity, we are missing out on so much beauty.
God placed beauty in the everyday
I’m glad that God didn’t just reserve his wonderful works for those uncommon moments. I’m thankful that he has placed beauty throughout our hours and days and weeks.
In small moments, like when cool grass bends beneath our feet on a hot summer day. And in larger ones, like when a baby smiles in wonder as it takes its first teetering steps.
Beauty can be found in artistic talent, nature, relationships, and communities. If you look, you can see it everywhere.
God gave us everyday beauty in the early light of sunrise and the golden glow as it sets. Each day, He offers us opportunity after opportunity to see His gifts and praise Him.
Our God is a generous god. He created a world that is both rare and common, surprising and mundane. But throughout it all, the everyday and the once-in-a-lifetime, He has given us beauty.
Let us praise Him each and every time we see it.
Have a blessed Monday!
