“Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” (Ephesians 4:2)
I should have this verse tattooed on my arms. That way, I can read it each time I cross them while tapping my foot, the epitome of impatience. I struggle long and hard with patience. So much so that my children actually include a request for mommy to have more patience in their prayer journal. Ouch.
Our loved ones seem to catch the brunt of our lesser qualities as we put a nicer face on for the world at large. But they, most of all, deserve our best. So when you’re feeling impatient with your spouse, your kids, your friends, or people at work, remember this verse and take a deep breath. No one is without fault, least of all you and me. So let’s love each other despite mistakes, lost shoes, last minute cancellations, and unreasonable demands.
While we will never reach the perfection of God, we should always aspire to the example He set, in the form of Jesus Christ. Love one another. And with love comes patience. You’ll appreciate this all the more the next time you are the one holding up the family as you all rush out the door.
Happy Monday!
