“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Today was the first day of school for my children, including my middle daughter’s first day of kindergarten. She had not had any formal schooling or daycare experience up until today, so I knew it would be a big change.
As we stood outside the school gates, all four of us looking at the new and unfamiliar school (we were rezoned this year), I struggled to find something to say that would comfort my children and still the nerves that I knew were fluttering in their bellies.
I took them to their respective lines, where their teachers and new classmates awaited, and I whispered into each of their ears, “God is with you. I may not be with you today, but you aren’t alone. God is with you all day, every day.”
As I left them with hugs and kisses, I held those words close to my own heart. It felt wrong to leave my children there, with virtual strangers, vulnerable and anxious. But I comforted myself knowing that God was with them even when I could not be. And He would watch over them in an infinitely better way than I ever could.
I hope my children hold that same confidence in their Heavenly Father in their own hearts as they go through this first day, and the many that will follow. I hope that you will, too, as you go through your day and the trials and challenges that may come along with it.
If God is with you, who can be against you? (Romans 8:31)
Have an amazing Monday!
