Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
With the power of Google at our fingertips, it’s hard not to feel like a know-it-all. It’s hard not to feel like we know what’s best when our friend is in crisis, to have an opinion on everything from social issues to politics. The smarter we are, the harder it is to believe that someone else has a better answer than we do.
But they do. The people around us are smart, too, and they have some good ideas. Maybe better than ours. Believing that we know better than our friends, our parents, our co-workers, and our husband has less to do with knowledge, and more to do with pride.
Pride is what stands between us and faith. How can we submit ourselves to God, believe that he has a plan, trust him with everything that weighs on our hearts, when we think that we have all the answers? But how often does our limited, earthly understanding fail us as God creates miracles in our worlds and in our hearts.
Submitting to the Lord and trusting in him goes against the rules of this world. We are supposed to be self-sufficient, self-reliant, educated, and opinionated. We should submit to no one and only trust the one who never lets us down- us. But those rules are as broken as this world.
We have an almighty God who loves us beyond description and who wants nothing more than to be welcomed into our lives. Trust him to care for all that matters, to see farther into the future than you can, and to know the right path to take. Let go of control and rely on your Heavenly Father instead of yourself.
It may feel counter-cultural or even a little scary, but it will also feel right. Giving up control doesn’t make you weak, because we are made strong in the Lord.
Have a blessed Monday!
