“Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” (Deuteronomy 4:9)
Every day is a new day. It’s a chance to start over and do a better job than you did the day before. But how? What’s the difference between today and yesterday?
Experience. Everything that you have seen, heard, and learned yesterday is going to color your choices today. And everything that you experienced last year is going to change the way you approach this year.
Mulling over goals gives me a chance to think about my experiences. And I thank God for all of them, even the epic failures. Because even from those, I can learn so much.
Sometimes I can feel regret creeping in. But dwelling on mistakes and obsessing over should-haves and could-haves teaches us nothing. It only bogs us down in the unchanging past so that we land up missing our present and stealing from our future.
We need to learn our lessons from all that our “eyes have seen” and solidify them in our hearts. Because God places blessings and challenges in our lives every day to offer us opportunities to seek His wisdom, glorify His name, and grow our faith.
As you begin this week, think about what blessings and challenges God has put before you lately. How can you learn from them? How can you teach those lessons to your children?
Have a blessed Monday!
