“Do all things without grumbling or complaining, so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” (Philippians 2:14-16)
Some days, it’s hard not to stoop down to someone else’s level. Brake check the guy who’s riding your bumper on the freeway. Sling mud at the co-worker who just slung some at you. See your child, sassy remark for sassy remark. It’s hard not to go low when it feels like everyone else is.
But we are called to be lights in this world. To shine and bring the light to those who might be dwelling in the darkness. And we can’t do that if we’re complaining, insulting, judging, and swearing.
It can be hard to rise above the petty and the “fair,” as our broken world sees it, but that’s where we need to be, and where we’ll be most at peace. “Hold fast to the word of life.” Arm yourself with scripture that focuses your thoughts and calms your soul. Don’t allow anger or pride to push you into a situation that steals your light, your peace.
It’s Monday. With all its commutes and carpools and chore lists. Spend it being a light for others, and a light for yourself.
Have an amazing week!
