“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
Do you ever get tired of doing the right thing? Do you wonder if it really matters all that much if you just take a break and do what you want to do for a while? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Temptation is a part of life and all around us. Don’t think that by avoiding any conversation with snakes that you dodged that bullet. We can tempt ourselves just fine without a reptile slithering by our feet.
How often do we tempt ourselves to give in to our desires, even though we know they’re not good for us? That extra slice of cake, that text to our ex, one more drink, one more TV show, one more purchase, one more bit of gossip. The temptations are numerous and all try to draw us away from doing the good that God calls us to do.
So don’t become weary. We are at our most vulnerable when we are hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. Allow God to give you the strength to turn away from temptation and the rest you need to keep going.
Because it really does matter if you take a break. Resting is not the same as giving in or giving up. Resting is caring for our body, mind, and soul so that we have the health and well-being to be spiritual leaders in our families and communities.
So don’t give up. Take a break if you must, but take it in the shelter of the Lord. Alleviate your weariness with scripture and prayer, and not self-destructive temptations. Because the day will come when all your efforts will be rewarded. When the kingdom of heaven will be open to you and you will never be weary again.
Have a blessed Monday
