“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.” – Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
Before I became a stay-at-home mom, I worked in an office. Some days were better than others, and on those days when things were not going well, I would slip away from my desk to go have a pseudo-work talk with one of my favorite co-workers.
These particular people were always in a good mood, and if they weren’t, they could still laugh about the things that were making them crazy. Their attitude and laughter could lighten even my worst moods.
Like being greeted with a smile, humor is contagious. Your happiness can bring joy to those around you. Some days you may be lifting their spirits, and some days they may be lifting yours.
Never discount the power of laughter or the effect of a smile. Whether it’s at home with your husband and kids, setting the tone for their day over breakfast, or out in the world, influencing acquaintances and strangers.
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22). If laughter is the best medicine, then dose the world liberally.
