“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’” (1 Corinthians 15:33)
A long time ago, I learned that I am an imitator. I couldn’t draw or paint anything from my head, at least not very well. But I could reasonable copy someone else’s paintings or drawings. I sometimes struggled to write in my own style, but if I read enough of a particular author, I could write in their “voice.”
And I notice that if I surround myself with Godly voices and influences, it is easier for me to live according to His will.
Influences, both positive and negative, shape our lives. If we have friends who support us and lift us up, if we read books that grow our faith and our minds, if we listen to advice from the humble and wise, we open ourselves up to the guiding hand of God.
Decisions will be easier because we are listening for the answers to our prayers. Our words will be gentler and more patient because the Spirit is in us. We’ll be slower to judge, slower to anger, and quicker to forgive because the people we spend our time with embody those things.
Fill your life with people that bring out the best in you. And you, in turn, will bring out the best in them.
Have a wonderful Monday!
