On our own, we can accomplish very little of what we need done. It’s only with God’s help that we have all that we need…
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
I’m a striver. Who’s with me? Always trying to do more, meet all the needs, get everything done and ahead of schedule to boot. Why say no when I can say yes? If you relate to this, then you are likely also a compulsive striver, always trying to do it all.
It’s exhausting though. Even as we flush with pleasure at getting that hot dinner on the table while running the laundry and helping with homework. Even as we put in overtime at work and still make it home in time for a bedtime story. And even as we host the best birthday party for our spouse with homemade hors d’oeuvres. Even, even, even…
For all that we accomplish, there are so many needs and wants that are not met. And we feel the lack in ourselves. Because we get tired and cranky and overwhelmed. Our flesh is weak and our hearts aren’t always in it.
That’s because we’re human. I know, news flash. But that humanity is what we are fighting against as we’re striving for perfection. We are attempting to force our human selves into a god-like state. But that’s impossible. We are what we are. And trying to take the place of God is sin at its worst.
God alone is what we need
He is our provision, the one who meets all our needs. It’s not us and our never-ending striving that do, but God. And not only does He meet our needs, but He is our need.
There are lots of things we think we need in life, such as a big bank account, romantic relationships, and big careers, but really, He is what we need. For any hole in our heart is not left to be filled with an earthly desire, but with His love.
When we stop trying to be everything, we can stand back and let God be our everything. And from His position of omnipotence, He will show us what we truly need. He provides. Whether it’s a spouse, a job, good health, or a new opportunity, God will take care of us.
When our hearts grow weak and tired, He will fill them up with His love and strength. He will power us through the hard times in life. God never abandons His children, so we can rest assured that we don’t need to strive. He is there with us. And all we need to do is slow down and let Him in.
Won’t you try with me to do that today?
Have a blessed Monday!

What a good reminder to slow down and rest at the feet of Jesus. 😉 Thanks for this. I needed that today.
