“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)
We all have plans for our lives.
It starts when we’re little and make whispered plans with our best friend about asking our parents for a sleepover on the weekend. Later, it’s plans about college or work, what we want to be when we grow up. At some point, it’s dinner dates and wedding dates and due dates.
Sometimes, our plans are less about future hope and more about lost hope. Divorce. Unemployment. Funerals. These plans are hard to make, but life doesn’t give us the choice. We have to press forward, even when the plans we are making are being written over the ones that we really wanted. Hoped for. Prayed for. Ached for.
We all have plans for our lives. But those plans aren’t always in accordance with the will of God and the purpose He has for us. That can be hard to accept when you’re hurting or feeling lost, but take heart in knowing that His plans for us are always better than anything we could dream up for ourselves.
I know someone who is aching for a baby right now, and it is a true test of her faith that God has not answered her prayers so far. I don’t know how God will guide her to fulfilling her purpose, but I do know that He will. It could be her childless home is the perfect place for foster children. Or, that she will be sent out into the world to minister to others in a way that wouldn’t have been possible as a young mother. Or, God is just waiting for the perfect time. One that only He knows.
If you are waiting for your plans and prayers to come to fruition, trust God to choose the right time and right purpose for you. It may not be what and when you thought it would be, but you can be sure that it will the perfect thing for you.
Have a blessed Monday!
