“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” (Psalm 62:8)
We can search all our lives for someone to trust, who will listen to our troubles, and who will make us feel safe. We may even think we’ve found someone who can fit the bill, maybe a spouse or best friend.
But, inevitably, they will fall short. Not because they want to, but because they can’t help it. They are humans with their own troubles and need for help. They can’t give endlessly without becoming depleted.
God has no end to his supply of love and mercy and power. He is never too distracted or overwhelmed or busy to listen to our prayers and walk with us through our hardest times.
He is our refuge and our Savior. He never turns us away, and is always ready to step into our lives and fill them up with His strength. His ear is always tuned to our voice when we call out for Him.
Don’t look to other people to fill that role. Don’t seek refuge in the oblivion of vices or the busyness of work. Trust God to be there for you. There is no safer place in heaven or on earth than in His loving arms.
Where do you take refuge?
Have a blessed Monday!
