Worry is a constant in so much of our lives, but when we choose worry over trust, we waste precious time and energy on something we have no control over. How can we let go of worry and live our lives by trust instead?
“Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.” (Luke 12:22)
Worry, at its base, is a play for control.
I know it may not feel that way. Worry often feels more like we are out of control than in it. But when we worry, we’re trying to control our surroundings and our experiences.
We’re anticipating future issues. We’re anxious about past mistakes. We try to read other people for a clue into what they think or feel or will do.
When we are in control, we already have that information. We know what’s coming, how the past played out into the future, and what the conclusion of our present moment will bring.
But we don’t have that information, do we?
And because we don’t have it, we worry about it instead. But what if we decided to put away the worry? What if we chose to let go of anxiety and instead embrace trust in the one who does have all the information?
Worry less, Trust more
Anxiety over what will come won’t change what will come. Whether sickness or marital trouble, money issues or pain of another sort, being prepared and aware will only get us so far.
And when we push beyond preparation to worry, when we go from awareness to hyper-awareness, we hurt much more than we help.
Trusting God to meet our needs is the only way to calm the fears and anxieties racing through our heads. He knows what is coming and will equip us mentally, physically, and spiritually for it.
Lean into God, His Word, and His promises. Allow Him to relieve some of those fears and replace them with His peace.
He is in control, not us.
Life isn’t easy and we will experience suffering. But worry won’t stop that. Even trust won’t stop the struggles coming our way. But unlike worry, trust will prepare us and strengthen us so we can meet each hardship perfectly.
Trust in God and He will always provide for you.
Have a blessed Monday!
