What was I reading this week? My Fringe Hours by Jessica N. Turner.
A few years ago, as a new stay-at-home mom who was pregnant with our fifth child, I found myself floundering. My responsibilities had changed, I was at “work” all the time, and quiet time was a thing of the past.
While on an outing to the library, I went in search of some guidance. I needed a book about productivity, a book about homemaking, and maybe a book about how to increase time via a stretching of the time-space continuum.
What I brought home was Jessica Turner’s The Fringe Hours: Making Time for You. The title alone made me want to cry (but that was probably just hormones).
Within those pages, I found encouragement, practical advice, and a comforting sense that I was not alone in my lack of free time. It was a great self-help book, with lots of productivity know-how slipped in. I recommend it to people still.
So, when I saw My Fringe Hours, I picked it up. After all, I enjoyed the first one so much, this one would surely be good.
My honest opinion about My Fringe Hours…
First, I want to point out that this is a short book. It’s about half the size of The Fringe Hours, but don’t let that fool you.
My Fringe Hours didn’t read like its own book, but rather as an interactive workbook accompaniment.
The chapters are short and divided among the nine Fringe Principles. With each chapter, there are various useful tips and a ton of questions to help you along on your own search for fringe hours to better your life.
The point of the book, as the subtitle states, is about “discovering a more creative and fulfilled life.” And that is mostly done by finding the time to be creative, take care of yourself, and lead a more satisfying life.
If you’re someone who is feeling overwhelmed or just needs a little more time in their day, I suggest reading both The Fringe Hours and My Fringe Hours. The former for knowledge and the latter to work through your own obstacles and plans.
(I also suggest getting the paper version of My Fringe Hours, so you can fill in your answers as you go.)
The principles in this book are perfect for helping you get a handle on your time, spend it wisely and joyfully, and enhance your life and the lives of those around you.
A great book for anyone who is just too busy.
Happy Reading!
