Looking for some reading suggestions this July? You’ve come to the right place…
Summer is officially here. With the hotter temperatures and touch of humidity to the air, lazing around with a good book is the perfect way to pass the time.
While swinging in a hammock with a nice cool drink nearby and a book perched on my chest will have to wait for the next vacation, I am happy to steal quiet moments with my Kindle whenever possible.
I know that summer is a great time for light “beach reads,” so I included a fiction book I found on the Summer Reading Guide 2018 from Anne Bogel of Modern Mrs. Darcy. If you are a bookworm who is always looking for a great reading list, check out her site for some July reading suggestions. You won’t be disappointed.
So, the hammock is a no this month. But I’ve got some black cherry seltzer and a few good books ready to welcome in the month of July. If that backyard barbeque you’re going to this weekend turns out to be a bust? Pack one of these books in your bag. With a lawn chair and some shade, you’ll be all set.
Here are my July Reading List picks…

Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay Clarkson with Sally Clarkson
I have always been interested in homeschooling, and this book was so highly recommended that I had to get it. This is an amazing resource full of wisdom and experiences that will resonate with any parent. We are all teachers of our children, whether they are schooled at home or outside of it. Knowing how to instill the knowledge that we’ve gained over the years to our young ones can only benefit them. And, as you all know, I am enamored with The Lifegiving Home (and The Lifegiving Home Experience, which I read each month), so this was a natural next-read.
Hello Mornings by Kat Lee
I listened to Kat Lee’s podcast for years (Inspired to Action) and love the Hello Mornings podcasts and bible studies. She has a way of speaking to her listeners that makes you feel like she knows exactly how tough mothering can be, but also how beautiful. I know that this book is going to lift up my mornings and energize me. I also know that it will help me live with those mornings when the only “God+Plan+Move” time I get is while the coffee is grinding because the noise drowns out anyone who tries to speak to me.
The Widows of Malabar Hills by Sujata Massey
This is a murder mystery that delves into religious and cultural norms in 1920s Bombay. Yup, that hooked me, too. It’s been a while since I read a mystery, but the historical context made it irresistible. The main character is a solicitor with her father’s firm. She becomes involved in a murder while trying to execute the will of a man who left three widows. Because of the women’s religious seclusion, she can speak with them and, hopefully, figure out the truth. I may just have a new must-read author to add to my list…
Becoming a Spiritually Healthy Family by Michelle Anthony
I’ve been meaning to get to this book for quite a while, but I’ve just been too busy. Turns out, that’s one of the reasons family’s fall into dysfunctional patterns — busyness. This book is a great resource for introducing faith into the family, and allowing God to help bring things back into alignment. I know that my faith, which was cultivated throughout my life, first by my parents and then on my own, has been my cornerstone. Even when I make mistakes and fall away, God is my true North, calling me back. I can’t wait to read this and continue on this journey with my own family.
In other July reading…
This month, I am still reading The Lifegiving Home Experience and doing my daily readings from the Big Picture Bible Reading Plan by Serving Joyfully. I’m also already looking for my August titles, so if you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below, or on Facebook or Instagram. I love hearing what you’re reading and enjoying!
Happy July reading, everyone!
