Looking for some reading suggestions this November? You’ve come to the right place…
The air is finally beginning to chill and the holiday season is gearing up. I love this time of year more than any other, and I can’t wait for all the festivities to start.
Parades and turkeys and Charlie Brown specials. Pumpkin pie and big dinners with loved ones, and hot tea on cold evenings.
This is the perfect time of year to sit by the window with a warm blanket, a hot drink, and a great book. They’re not always easy to squeeze into a busy life with little ones all around, but it’s worth shuffling some things to get this quiet breathing space.
If you’d like to join me, grab your favorite mug and softest blanket. Here are my November reading list picks…

The Wooden Horse by Eric Williams
This is a fictionalized version of the author’s actual escape from a German prison camp during World War II. They basically used a hollow vaulting horse to disguise the 100-plus feet of tunnel they dug to the outside. The prisoners’ ingenuity and creativity alone make this an interesting read.
North by Scott Jurek
This was recommended to me, and while I am far, far away from the world of ultra marathons, I am looking forward to reading about the author’s journey along the Appalachian Trail and how he pushed through. Stories of endurance and inner strength are always fascinating and worth reading… or, in this case, hearing since I got the author-narrated audiobook (my favorite kind).
The Happiness Dare by Jennifer Dukes Lee
I think a lot of us struggle with the search for joy while being satisfied with the life God has given us. This book looks at finding happiness without sacrificing faith and trust in God. I’m really curious about her take on how to strike that balance, as I know I am prone to let circumstances dictate my feelings.
Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi
Confession time: I’ve never read Lolita. But I don’t think that’s what this book is really about. This memoir tells of a teacher who worked to keep literature in Iranian women’s hands, despite the country’s laws. I can’t wait to read about what life was like in Tehran during the revolution, especially for women. And how they found the courage to break the rules in search of knowledge and learning.
In other November reading…
I am nearing the end of my year-long Bible reading plan from Serving Joyfully and I’m really glad I started it this year. It was great accountability, keeping me to the readings each and every day. I am also still reading The Lifegiving Parent Experience this month. And I’ll be reading the November chapter from The Lifegiving Home Experience.
Do you have any suggestions for me for December? We’re getting near the end of the year, so if you’d like to share what you’re reading or what you think of these books, follow me on Facebook or Instagram and let me know, or leave a comment below.
Happy reading!
