This month, I am reading through the book of Proverbs, studying one chapter a day. Each week, I will share a verse that stuck with me. Join me as I study the wisdom that God gave Solomon, and apply it to life today.
“But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” (Proverbs 1:33)
The book of Proverbs is like a guidebook on life. Verse after verse touches on subjects that are as relevant today as they were in Solomon’s time.
From laziness and cheating to respect and humility, Proverbs gives you advice on what you should do, and what you should avoid.
I appreciate this book of the Bible because it is so clear cut. Sometimes I really just need it spelled out and made perfectly obvious; otherwise, I can overanalyze and turn things around until I’m off the path and lost again.
This verse is from the first book of Proverbs, and it struck me as the overarching theme of the book. Living according to God’s plan and instruction is the most important piece of wisdom or advice we can get—because if we can do that, then everything else falls into place.
How to live in God’s wisdom
Living our lives according to God’s wisdom isn’t always easy—even with a cut-and-dry book of proverbs to help light the way.
That’s because our best intentions are often hijacked by the messiness of the here and now. I can read Proverbs in the early morning before my family has gotten up. But I can also fail to follow God’s wisdom multiple times before lunch.
Losing my temper. Acting more proud than humble. Not listening to the advice of my mother, and instead following my own folly.
Even as a mother trying to raise godly children, I still fall short on an hourly (if not minute by minute) basis.
So, how do we live in God’s wisdom? By writing it on our hearts, picking ourselves up from our failures, and walking out in faith again.
We can’t change if we don’t see the problem, hence writing His words on our hearts. Whether that means writing them out in a journal, memorizing scripture with an app, or putting Post-its on our mirror, remember what is right in the eyes of God. And do it.
When we inevitably trip, as we all do, we need to know that this is about the imperfections of life, not about our not trying hard enough. So, we pick ourselves up, pray for another chance to walk in God’s light and along His path, and try again.
Step by step, day by day, we can all walk in God’s wisdom. All we have to do is have faith and perseverance. If we keep trying, God will carry us the rest of the way.
Have a blessed Monday!

When I first became a Christian, I was encouraged to read the book of Proverbs every day, one chapter per day, because there are 31 chapters. That was some of the best advice I received, and that was many years ago. Keep up the good work….love it!

I love the book of Proverbs! Yes, it contains wonderful instructions for living God’s way. And not always easy to live out, I too fail at it before noon. I keep reading it though and the more I do the more soaks in, and I can see that I am doing better as more is written on my heart. Great post Many Thanks 8)

There’s a simplicity to Proverbs that I love, but even with its to-the-point style, I still falter. But you’re right, the more we study, the more we learn, the easier it gets. Thank you for reading! God bless.

I haven’t read Proverbs for ages, reading a chapter a day sounds like a great idea. Yes, we are so easily swayed from our good intentions – that’s why we need the Holy Spirit and God’s Word to guide us, one step at a time.
