This is the second week of Advent. Join me as we celebrate the coming of Jesus with light.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)
This is the second week of Advent, a time when we prepare our hearts for Christmas. So we are celebrating His holy light that came down from heaven to open our eyes and take away the darkness.
It’s hard to imagine that the little baby we’ve all seen sleeping in the manger would do all of that. As a mother, I have looked at my own newborns and seen how small and fragile they are.
But Jesus came to us in this fragile state to live among us as a man, growing and living life as we do, yet not as we do. Unlike Jesus, we are sinners and imperfect. Even in the flesh, He was blameless and perfect.
Despite that, He still came for us–to die for our sins, to shed light on our darkest places, and to leave light behind.
Have you ever wandered around in the dark? It can be scary, not knowing or seeing what’s in front of you or around you. Now imagine you are holding a light. The darkness loses its power. Fear ebbs away.
That was why Jesus was born. To one day take away our sins and our fear and our uncertainty, and to replace it with a clean slate, a peaceful soul, and a courageous heart.
Let’s spend this week reminding ourselves that whatever fears or darkness cling to our lives, Jesus is the light and He is coming.
This week, we light a candle on our Advent wreaths for peace, for His light is our peace.
Have a blessed Monday!
