Sometimes we just need a little encouragement in our day—so here are some of the best podcasts to inspire even the busiest and most rundown mom out there. Just plug in your ear buds and pull up a basketful of unfolded laundry…
Busy moms don’t have a lot of free time. So, when someone suggests a great book/movie/TV show that we just have to check out, we usually nod, say we’ll try, and file it away for when we’ll eventually have time—the key word being “eventually.”
I realized when I had my kids that there wasn’t much time for the pursuits I used to enjoy. Things that I could sit back and do with full focus from beginning to end.
I didn’t start reading more until this year, once my youngest was two. TV and movies? Let’s just say that every time someone says “Game of Thrones,” I say, “Huh?”
But podcasts are a different story. I love podcasts because they fit into my busy mom life without extra effort or giving up sleep (as a post-bedtime movie would require). I can listen to a podcast while folding laundry, driving, making dinner, or exercising. Podcasts can be slipped into the spaces of my day, enriching and entertaining me without forcing me to ignore my commitments.
The beauty of podcasts
I started listening to podcasts at a lonely time in my life. I had two small children and was pregnant with my third. My husband was working and I didn’t see friends all that much. So one day I came across a podcast mentioned on a blog I casually read, and thought I’d give it a try.
The beauty of podcasts is that you feel like you’re sitting with friends, having a chat. For me, it filled a lonely place that needed to spend time with like-minded women, even if it was entirely one-sided. I appreciated having them in my ear while I nursed my kids, took care of the house, and went about my day with a little more companionship than I’d had before.
Podcasts can cover a lot. There are thousands of them out there, but I personally love the ones that center on things that interest me (like books), ones that encourage me in my roles (like parenting), and ones that inspire me to be better (like in my faith).
I may not have time to review a book or read an author interview, but I can listen to a podcast episode that does. Maybe I can barely find time to wash my hair, but I can listen as a meditation guru talks about the basics so that I can learn while I wash dishes. I might not feel very good about my parenting, but I can listen to another mom tell me how she handles the problems that are frustrating me.
The beauty of podcasts is that they give busy moms a chance to do the things that life makes it hard to accomplish otherwise. They inspire us and teach us. They give us community when we need it.
So, here are some of the best podcasts out there to inspire and encourage all you busy moms. Give them a try, and I hope you enjoy!
The Best Podcasts to Inspire Busy Moms
Inspired to Action
This was my first podcast, and even though it’s on hiatus right now, it is worth checking out the back episodes. Kat Lee has a gift for inspiring mothers to do and be more, for the glory of God and the benefit of family.
At Home with Sally
Sally Clarkson is an inspiration to millions of mothers. Spend some time with her podcast to help grow your own faith-filled family and feel inspired in your role of motherhood.
Simple
Tsh Oxenreider has made it a point to live with intention and simplicity. Her podcast focuses on living well and enjoying life without unnecessary extras.
Hello Mornings
Kat Lee started this podcast to encourage women to wake up for their lives, not to their lives. There’s Bible studies, interviews, and encouragement for better living, one morning at a time.
What Should I Read Next?
Even busy moms need some fun, and this podcast is great for inspiring a reading hobby. Anne Bogel offers content that will encourage your reading life and help you pick that next great book (because who has time for a bad book?!).
Don’t Mom Alone
Busy moms shouldn’t do it alone, so Heather MacFadyen (sometimes co-host of Hello Mornings) gives you the chance to find community and resources to make parenting easier and more connected.
Cultivating the Lovely
I like Mackenzie Koppa’s way of looking at life and encouraging the bright and lovely around us. Whether it’s family, faith, or friendship, this podcast is an inspiration for busy moms.
Out of the Ordinary
Lisa-Jo Baker has really inspired me with her writing, and so this podcast she shares with her longtime friend, Christie Purifoy, was unsurprisingly a joy. I know how being a mom can feel inconsequential—this podcast reminds us that we have one of the most important jobs in the world.
The Crystal Paine Show
Crystal Paine is great at the practical things that make up the daily life of a busy mom. Check out this podcast for inspiration and motivation to live a better, more satisfying life.
My Instruction Manual
I discovered this podcast after proofreading one of Keith McArthur’s books. After receiving a life-saving kidney transplant, he wanted to share what he’d learned. If you’re looking for interviews and advice on how to live life to the fullest, reaching your goals and finding contentment, then this podcast is for you.
Read-Aloud Revival
Moms often steer the ship of their family and home. When it comes to reading in the family, we could all use a hand in inspiring the next generation. Sarah Mackenzie offers interviews, advice, and booklists to help even the busiest moms bring books into their kids’ lives.
The Happy Hour
If you’re yearning for community, or just a coffee with friends, Jamie Ivey’s podcasts is a great choice. With a different guest every episode, you can enjoy stories and laughs as these women share their lives with you.
The Frugal Family Home
This podcast offers inspiration and helpful advice on finances, family, and intentional living. Perfect if you need some practicality with your encouragement.
The Open Door Sisterhood
Alexandra Kuykendall and Krista Gilbert are fun and encouraging with their practical insights into motherhood and life in general. This podcast is great when life is feeling extra hard.
I hope this list of the best podcasts to inspire busy moms will help you find the right one(s) for you. We may not have time for a full-length movie or dinner with friends when we want, but we can turn on a podcast and get encouragement, advice, and information that will make us better, more content moms.
Happy listening!
This is definitely not a full list, so tell me what your favorite podcasts are? Which ones inspire you busy moms out there? I’d love to hear in the comments!
