What book did I read this week? Off the Clock: Feel Less Busy While Getting More Done by Laura Vanderkam.
I read Off the Clock because when it comes to time management, Laura Vanderkam is an authority. A few years ago, I read 168 hours and What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast, and these books changed the way I look at my time.
Vanderkam advocates time tracking, creating margin in your day, and prioritizing the important things so that the life you live is richer.
Off the Clock is full of real-life examples, personal anecdotes from her own family and work, and interesting interviews that back up her principles on managing your time better.
My honest opinion of Off the Clock…
As someone who juggles a lot of home, family, and work responsibilities, and often feels like she’s failing at it, I really needed this book. Vanderkam has a way of cutting through the excuses of not having enough time, and helping you evaluate how you can make better use of what you have.
Similar to her previous books, she advises you to track your time so you see what you’re spending it on. I admit that this is really hard for me because I often forget or have to estimate, but if you can get two weeks’ worth of time logs, you’ll be able to see where your time is flying.
The fact that we all have the same finite amount of time to live our lives motivates me to spend it better—not just be more productive, but also prioritize. My family means more to me than my job. And my faith is more important than a clean house. So, how should I spend my time, and with whom?
I would recommend this book to anyone who is fascinated by time management, who needs to reevaluate their priorities, or who needs to spend their time more wisely. Off the Clock doesn’t just touch on time management, but goes deeper into our relationships, self-care, health, and legacy.
If you are looking for an amazing self-improvement or time management book, Off the Clock is one of the best. You won’t be disappointed, but you will be motivated.
Happy Reading!
