Do you ever wonder if you are enough? Enough for your spouse, your kids, your job – your God? Yes. The answer is yes…
“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ And God said, ‘I will be with you.'” (Exodus 3:11-12a)
More often than I care to admit, I wonder about my worthiness and my abilities. I wonder if I am enough for the challenges of my day.
Am I strong enough to handle the everyday struggles presented by my individual children? Can I both work and homeschool and be the wife/friend/person I want to be? Am I the right person for this job?
I don’t think feelings of inadequacy are unique to just me. In fact, I’d bet there’s a fair amount of women and men out there who give themselves the metaphorical side-eye every time life hands them another challenge.
We stress about how we’ll handle it, whether we can handle it, and then when it’s over, we get anxious about how we did handle it.
These thoughts and questions are a result of feeling unworthy – unworthy and ill-equipped for the tasks we’ve been handed, the challenges we’ve been set to face.
And in truth, we’re not enough for them. That is, we aren’t enough on our own…
You are enough because you are not alone
I chose this verse because it reminded me that behind every great man (or woman), stands a great God.
Before Moses was parting red seas and bringing water from rocks, he was an anxious guy who had run from difficulty. He suffered from doubts and fears, and wondered if he was enough.
Sound like anyone you know? Maybe you? He sure sounds like me.
God chose Moses to be the leader that would bring the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, to get Pharaoh to let His people go to take the land they had been promised long ago.
Moses wondered if he was enough. And he was right. He wasn’t enough. Not if he had attempted to do this great thing on his own.
But God was with him. And because he was not alone, because God went with him, he was enough.
And you are, too.
Inviting God into your life, into your struggles and fears and hardships, is the difference between Clark Kent and Superman.
On our own, we can do some things. We can even do them well. But if we want to meet every challenge with confidence, aptitude, and peace of mind, then we need to enter into it with God at our side.
Yes, you are enough. Because God never leaves us, He is just waiting for the invitation. With Him, we will always be enough no matter what situation comes our way.
As Paul wrote: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
